Guizhou international conference calls for sustainable development of mountain tourism

Xingyi, Guizhou: The First International Mountain Tourism Conference has appealed all the countries and regions of the world to work for sustainable development of mountain tourism.

The First International Mountain Tourism Conference held in Xingyi of Guizhou province of China, issuing Guizhou Declaration, stressed on friendly mountain eco-system for sustainable development of the economy, society and environment in mountainous countries and regions around the world.

Renowned mountain experts, officials of international tourism organizations and leaders of Guizhou province dealt on various issues of mountain ecology and tourism.

Addressing a grand opening ceremony in Wanfeng Forest Convention Center, Guizhou's Governor and Party Secretary of Provincial government Chen Min'er committed to develop all parts of the province as a major tourist destination.

‘ The uniqueness of colorful Guizhou, beautiful mountains, amazing waterfalls and rich culture of different ethnic groups have not only attracted a large number of visitors from different parts of the world ,but also mountain tourism has developed as a major industry in Guizhou ,’ Chen Min'er added.

Mr. Li Shihong, Vice Chairman of CNTA and chief of CNTA’s department of tourism promotion and international cooperation, highlighted on initiatives for planned development of tourism in China. Tourism has contributed around 10 % of GDP, 9 % of employment and elimination of poverty in rural parts of the country.

Asst. Director of General Administration of Sports Li en Chan said that outdoor sports activities are developed as an important sector of tourism in China.

On the occasion, keynote speakers former secretary-general of UN World Tourism Organization Francesco Frangialli , former Chairman of Pacific- Asia Travel Association (PATA) Scott Supernaw ,Prof. Peter Keller, Michel Bouvard , Liu Fung and cultural ambassador of Guizhou shared their views on different issues of mountain tourism, ecology of highlands, sustainable tourism and rapid development of tourism in Asia-Pacific countries with focus of China.

The first international mountain tourism conference with theme of “Mountain tourism and Green sports going Hand in Hand “was jointly hosted by China National Tourism Administration, General Administration of Sport of China and the Guizhou provincial government and organized by Tourism Administration of Guizhou Province ,Sports Administration of Guizhou and People’s Government of Qianxinan Prefecture on Oct. 10 – 11 in Xyngyi city of Quanxinan Prefecture.

More than 150 experts from 39 countries and regions including personalities of international organizations and 800 participants representing different countries, government ministries, tourism enterprises, airline companies and socio-economic institutions participated in the IMTC.

Similarly, Standing Committee member of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee Zhang Guangzhi ,former Deputy Chief of CNTA Ms.Du Yili , Prof. Samuels ,Ms. Alice N.H. Chen ,Prof. Xin Hongye, Liao Chaoxian, Prof. Li Xiaoyun, Prof.Jin Leshan and Ms.Li Xiaoyun dealt on issues of mountain tourism in the “Forum on mountain tourism and beautiful villages “.

The forum on mountain tourism and beautiful villages was hosted by Tourism Administration of Guizhou province and People’s Govt. of Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and organized by Agriculture Committee of Qianxinan Prefecture, Tourism Administration (QP), Establishment office of Beautiful Villages and People’s Govt. of Xingyi city.

Guizhou , located in Southwest China ,covers an area of 176,000 square kilometers, with six cities and three minority autonomous prefectures .Besides the Han nationality, there are 17 ethnic minorities including Miao, Dong and Buyi nationalities living in Guizhou .

Guizhou has three World Heritage Sites, 18 major national scenic spots, nine national nature reserves ,60 popular scenic spots and numerous culture heritage and conservation sites including world famous Huangguoshu Waterfall, Zhijin Cave, Maling river canyon and Ten Thousand Peak forest among others.

The province with 35 million population received 3.21 million tourists with a total tourism income of 290 billion RMB in 2014.

Guizhou province welcomed 21.16 million domestic tourists during the recent week-long National Day holiday, or known as the Golden Week (Oct 1-7) and tourism revenue of 13.64 billion Yuan ($2.15 billion) according to the provincial tourism bureau. Guizhou is popular as the ‘Province with natural air-conditioning ‘ in China.
