New Delhi : Tourist arrivals in India has increased in the first two months of this year. Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) during the period January- February 2017 were 1.94 million with a growth of 14.7 percent as compared to the FTAs of 1.69 million in January- February 2016 .

The percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during February 2017 among the top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh followed by  UK , USA , Russia , Canada , France , Germany , China , Sri Lanka , Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand , Afghanistan , and Nepal.

According to India’s Ministry of Tourism, India welcomed a total of 8.89 million international visitors in 2016, up 10.7% compared to 2015. Visitor spending increased to US$23.1 billion (INR1.56 trillion) in 2016. Bangladesh, the US and UK were India’s three largest international source markets in 2016.

India's Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) and FTAs on e- Tourist Visa on the basis of nationality, port-wise data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI).

The percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during February 2017 among the top 15 ports was highest at Delhi Airport  followed by Mumbai Airport , Haridaspur Land checkpost , Chennai Airport , Goa Airport, Bengaluru Airport , Kolkata Airport , Cochin Airport, Hyderabad Airport , Gede Rail Land checkpost, Ahmadabad Airport , Amritsar Airport , Trivandrum , Ghojadanga land checkpost and Gaya Airport .

 During January- February 2017, a total of 32.18 lakh tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 20.54 lakh during January-February 2016, registering a growth of 56.7 percent .
