Asian tourism fair in Dhaka
Dhaka – A three-day ‘2nd Asian Tourism Fair’ is organised in Dhaka with the participation of eight countries for ‘combined promotion of exciting Asian tourist destinations’.
Apart from Bangladesh, tour operators, travel agents, airlines, hotels and other service providers from the public and private sectors of Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, China, and Nepal are participating in the fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
Monthly magazine Parjatan Bichitra is organisng the event in association with the Bangladesh Tourism Board, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and the TVET Reform Project of ILO-Dhaka.
Speaking at the press conference, outgoing Ambassador of Indonesia Zet Mirzal Zainuddin welcomed the initiative, as he believed “it will help Bangladesh promote its tourism”.
High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Sarath K Weragoda said, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives could be a tourist hub in the Asian region.
Ambassador of Vietnam Nguyen Quang Thuc said their tourism industry expected 6.5 million foreign tourists and 32 million local visitors this year, and an estimated turnover of about $7.1 billion.
He said Vietnam’s tourism industry would continue to promote growth and sustainable development with an average yearly growth of 11.5 to 12 percent between 2011 and 2020.Cultural shows of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka troops would be an added attraction of the fair, organisers said.
