“Dolpo- A Living Museum of the World “launched

Kathmandu: Journalist Bishnu Prasad Sharma Parajuli’s new book “ Dolpo- A Living Museum of the World “ was launched here this week.
Veteran litterateur and scholar Madan Mani Dixit launched the book “ Dolpo – Biswako Jiwit Sangrahalaya “amidst a program here on Saturday. Scholar Dixit opined that the book on Dolpo would help the people to have depth knowledge on Himalayan region , specially the far western part of the country.
On the occasion writers Dr. Tara Nath Sharma , Dr. Jibendra Dev Giri , Rochak Ghimire ,Ram Krishna Regmi , Pramod Pradhan , Prof . Jagat Upadhyya, Mohan Duwal and Keshav Parajuli highlighted on different aspects of the new publication on Dolpo.
Writer Bishnu Prasad Sharma Parajuli said that the Nepali language book was the outcome of his trekking from Baglung to Dolpo in recent years . He has visited 72 districts of Nepal so far .
Published by Bhundi Puran Publications , the 384 pages book contains information on cultural , socio-economic life of the people of Dolpo and the western Himalayan region.
Parajuli has already penned three books including “ Tibet Yatra” ( Journey to Tibet ).
Dolpo was opened to foreigners in 1989, and still is restricted area in terms of trekking .
Peter Matthiessen’s book ‘The Snow Leopard’ , Eric Valli’s stunning movie ‘Himalaya (Caravan)’ and some other publications has contributed a lot to promote the region .
The majority of Dolpo lies behind the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri Himal range and is high altitude region, strongly reminiscent of Tibet of China.
