    Domestic travel destinations popular in India

    Over 57 per cent of Indians intend to go for their next vacation in early 2021, according to ZestMoney Survey.

    ZestMoney, India’s leading AI-driven EMI financing and “Buy Now Pay Later” platform, recently released the findings from a customer survey conducted to know Indians’ travel plans for the coming year.

    The survey was conducted with a sample of 4600 respondents across key metros and Tier II/III cities in India.

    According to the survey, over 75 per cent of respondents avoided vacation in the last three months, while over 57 per cent are planning their next leisure travel in early 2021.

    A large number of people are interested for domestic travel in India.  The popular destinations are – Goa, Kerala, Shimla, Ladakh, Kashmir, Jaipur, Agra, and Mysore among others.

    Other key findings of the survey are –

    • Over 45 per cent of respondents preferred local travel destinations and staycations over international travel in 2021; while approximately 60 per cent of respondents preferred interstate, they travel within the state or internationally.

    • Around 42 per cent of respondents preferred travelling by their car, instead of flights or trains.

    • Nearly 60 per cent of respondents preferred a hotel over a homestay as their accommodation for their next trip.

    • Safety & hygiene was a top parameter for around 74 per cent of respondents while selecting a travel destination.

    More than 44 per cent of respondents stated that the pandemic impacted their holiday and travel budgets.

    Solutions like Pay Later are gaining popularity as a financing alternative, with 55 per cent of respondents willing to opt for EMIs or Buy Now, Pay Later option to fund their next personal trip.

    “The pandemic had halted leisure travel for many travel enthusiasts over the past year as they restrained their discretionary spends and focused on savings. With the phased reopening across cities, consumers are gradually planning their vacations for the coming year.
