GBTA and GSTC announce new Board of Directors
Boston : The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) revealed the results of its annual Board of Directors elections at the 2012 GBTA Convention in Boston. Michelle (Mick) Lee, managing director, head of Global Travel, Citigroup; Bhart A. Sarin, CCTE, C.P.M., Global Procurement—Travel and Fleet, Ingredion Incorporated and Douglas Weeks, director, Global Sourcing, Booz and Company were all elected as a Direct Member at Large and will serve a three-year term beginning the last day of the Convention.
Eric Norberg, director, Global Business Development, Carlson Wagonlit Travel was elected as an Allied Member at Large. Norberg will also serve a two-year term beginning on the last day of the Convention.
“The entire business travel industry benefits from the dedication of our association, the education and professional development opportunities, and the industry research and advocacy. I am thrilled to have Mick, Bhart, Doug and Eric as fellow board members. Their dedication and commitment to GBTA will enhance and strengthen our entire association,” said Jim McMullan, GBTA president and CEO.
Outgoing members include Maylena Burchfield, CCTE, CLP, executive director, ADTRAV Travel Management; Sharon Fogarty, CCTE, GLP, director, Travel Services, Thomson Reuters; Pamela McTeer, CTC, C.P.M, CCTE, strategic sourcing director, First Data; and, Mark Ziegler, CCTE, GLP, corporate travel manager, Atmel Corporation.
The GBTA Board of Directors consists of fourteen members, including ten travel buyers and four suppliers. GBTA Board elections are held each year in conjunction with the annual GBTA Convention.
Similarly ,the Global Sustainable Tourism Council(GSTC) has elected new Board of Directors. The new members of the board are Dr. Jiwei Xu, Chair of the Mt. Huangshan Administrative Committee; Heidi van der Watt, Director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism-South Africa; Gwen Migita, Vice President of Sustainability for Caesars Entertainment; Clara Torres, Deputy Director of Public Relations for the Mexico Tourism Board; and Guy Chester, Director at EcoSustainAbility. In addition, Jennifer Seif—Executive Director of Fair Trade in South Africa—was elected certification representative. These newly elected officials bring a global range of perspectives to the organization’s governing body, representing the voices of business, government, and NGOs.
The GSTC’s Board of Directors is the organization’s highest authority, overseeing the Council’s operations and ensuring that its mandate is being followed. The 20-person board’s 12 “at large” members are elected to three-year terms by the membership of the GSTC. Three permanent seats are filled by representatives of the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Foundation, which sponsors the GSTC. – TBN
