Visitor arrivals up in Nepal

Kathmandu : The visitor arrivals in the month of July 2012, compared to the same month last year, have increased by 9.2% to 38,453 according to the figures released by Immigration Office of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) . Tourist arrivals in the month of June was 43,238.
The arrivals from South Asian region have gained overall positive growth of 18.3% with mixed performance. The arrivals from India and Pakistan have increased by 24.3% and 27.1% respectively whereas Bangladesh and Sri Lanka markets declined by 34.2% and 44.6% respectively.
Visitor arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia region) have also recorded positive growth of 8.5% with China 27.2%, Japan 28.4% and Malaysia 19.4%. However arrivals from Singapore, South Korea and Thailand have registered negative growths of 23.2%, 9.1% and 58% respectively.
From long-haul markets, Europe registered overall positive growth of 5% with major source markets showing positive trend in terms of visitor arrivals. Arrivals from Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain have recorded positive growth . Arrivals from UK, Italy and Belgium were down by 5.6%, 14.9% and 2.1% respectively.
Likewise, arrivals from Canada and the United States of America also registered positive growth of 9.2% and 4.5% respectively. Australia showed decrease in arrival figure by 5.4% while New Zealand posted positive growth of 50.6%.
Altogether, 15000 tourists from India, 4204 from China, 2371 from USA and 1075 from Japan visited Nepal in July this year
Aggregate visitor arrivals continue to rise by 18.5 % to 332,472 for the period between Jan-July 2012 compared to the same month last year. Almost all the markets have exhibited positive results.
A total of 43,969 foreign tourists departed from TIA in July 2012.The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 50,862 while 73,193 Nepalese departed from TIA in July 2012. Source : NTB
