India’s tourism sector resolves to co-create,collaborate

New Delhi : India’s Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has emphasised for overall development of tourism in the country.
In his opening address to the National Conference of Tourism Ministers held here recently , the Union Minster for Tourism said “I want accomplish four issues namely reiterate that the safety and security of all tourists, domestic as well as international, but especially women, remains the top priority for all of us; talk about some of the opportunities before us; update you on the Tourism Strategy of the Ministry of Tourism; and conclude with how we can continue to work together”.
He said that the Ministry of Tourism has decided to institute from 2016 a new category in its annual National Tourism Awards to recognize the best efforts made by all States / UTs for ensuring cleanliness at their prominent places of tourist significance.
The Union Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley addressing the conference said that tourism industry in India is a low hanging fruit and with a little bit of planning, we can achieve far greater advantages.
Emphasising the role central state planning could play in the development of the sector, he said India was well positioned to take greater advantage from the benefits of tourism.
He also asked the states to reduce taxes on tourism and aviation fuel so that more benefits could be gained from this segment for the country.
The National Conference of State Tourism Ministers conference is organized to initiate a high-level discussion on important issues of tourism sector and to stimulate closer cooperation with all the stakeholders in the Indian tourism sector.
The conference reviewed Centrally Financed Tourist Infrastructure Projects, Safety and security of Tourists, Electronic Tourist Visa on Arrival, Rationalization of taxes, Development of Theme Based Tourist Circuits, National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) , Cleanliness , Hygiene and Sanitation around tourist destinations, Capacity Building Programmes, harnessing technology for delivery of online services and making tourist destinations accessible for differently-abled tourists.
