Mountain Museum visitors

Pokhara-The number of foreign and domestic visitors visiting the International Mountain Museum (IMM) has been increasing annually since its establishment nine years ago.
“Because of the rise in the number of visitors, the museum’s income has been going up annually,” said Bal Prasad Rai, Musicologist & Chief Administrator of the IMM Project under the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
During the first five months of the current fiscal year (as of Magsir 21 this year), the IMM recorded altogether 72,811visitors. A total of 135,383 visitors observed the museum during the fiscal year 2067/68 B.S. as compared to 103,478 during the previous fiscal year.
Of the total figures of the last fiscal year, 12,623 tourists were from other countries of the world, while the number of visitors from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) stood at 5,941and 28,000 were Nepali visitors.
Established with an investment of about Rs. 115 million, the IMM had seen 37,102 visitors during the fiscal year 2061/62 B.S. However, only 14,217 visitors had entered the museum in the initial year.
As an additional tourist attraction of the Lake City, the museum features an exceptional collection of flora and fauna taken from the Himalayas and other regions. Other features of the museum include a mountain model of Mount Manaslu, an effigy of Yeti, Mount Everest Model, and a complete 3D model of mountains from the Himalayan Ranges.The museum also offers information about the world’s living history of mountaineering and culture of the mountain people.The IMM has received assistance from various alpine clubs and other organizations from different countries.
