• International Mt. Conference in Prague

    Kathmandu:An International Mountaineering Conference concluded in Prague of Czech Republic to inform the world community about the Himalayan region of Nepal.

    A special exhibition was held on Nepal’s Himalayas, mountaineering, and adventure tourism in the conference held from December 1-4 in Prague, said member of the National Tourism Council and Entrepreneur Ang Chhiring Sherpa.

    A working paper was presented during the conference on emergency rescue as well as tourism promotion in the Himalayan region, said Chairman of the Himalayan Rescue Association Santa Subba.A six-member team led by Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation participated in the conference.

    Meanwhile,Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has urged the government to announce Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpa, Manaslu and Kanchanjunga as Normal Trekking zones.

    The regions are presently restricted for trekking. “We have urged the government to announce the region to open up so that it could attract more tourists and help generate more employment opportunities for the people in the regions,” said president of the TAAN Mahendra Singh Thapa.

    The number of trekkers coming to the regions is very low as they are a Restricted Areas. “We have continuously asked the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation for the reduction of royalty charged to the trekkers to $50 per person, that is presently $500,” Thapa added.The association has also urged the government to establish a ‘One Window System’ to issue permit to trekkers.
