Renowned Italian mountaineer Silvio Mondinelli felicitated

Kathmandu: The Italian mountaineer to climb all the 14 mountains above 8000 metres without the supplementary of oxygen Silvio Mondinelli was felicitated by Nepal Mountaineering Association amidst a ceremony here.
Nepal Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati felicitated a team of Italian mountaineers led by Silvio Mondinelli for their contribution in promoting Nepal.The felicitation programme was orgnised by Nepal Mountaineering Association in honour of Minister Bogati, newly appointed secretary of MoCTCA Yajna Prasad Gautam and mountaineer Silvio Mondinelli.
On the occasion,Minister Bogati and,Secretary Gautam presented letter of appreciation to the renowned climber Mondinelli.Nepal Mountaineering Association President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa,General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah and Executive board members of NMA felicitated professional alpinist Mondinelli and his team members offering khada at the programme.
Mountaineer Mondinelli is the world’s sixth and Italy’s second mountaineer to scale all the 14 mountains above 8000 metres without oxygen.
The 54-year-old mountaineer Mondinelli started climbing at 18 years old and climbing the 8000 meters peaks in 1993.His several extreme rescue operations at high altitude made him an example of courage all over the world
Mondinelli reached the summit of Broad Peak (8047m), the final summit of the 14 highest mountains in the world.He climbed Broad Peak without supplementary oxygen and became the second Italian – after Reinhold Messner – to have climbed all fourteen 8000m peaks without the use of supplementary oxygen.
The Italian mountaineer team arrived in Nepal in their vehicle completing a 14,000 km long journey of 23 days. They have contributed to operate the 15-bed Highway Community Hospital at Dhading,some 70 km from Kathmandu.
The 14 mountains above 8000 meters are Mt. Everest, K2 (Godwin Austen), Kangchenjunga,Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak ,Gasherbrum II and Shisha Pangma
