ITB Berlin 2020 as scheduled, ITB China postponed

    Travel Biz News —

Around 10 thousand exhibitors from over 180 countries and regions will participate at ITB Berlin this year.

Featuring the latest products and innovations of thousands of exhibitors from around the world, ITB Berlin will underline its role as the world’s leading travel trade show as usual. ITB Berlin 2020 will be held on 4-8 March in Berlin.

The ITB Berlin Convention revolves around the core themes of sustainability, digitalisation, changing customer demands and luxury. This year, the largest think tank of the global travel industry will be under the slogan “Smart Tourism for Future”.

Some of the international gatherings are postponed recently in different parts of the world due to outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19.

“ AUMA, the association of the German trade fair industry, the German trade show organizers and we as ITB Berlin are monitoring the situation very closely and are in regular contact with the German health authorities and The German Ministry of Health, “ a statement issued by Messe Berlin said.

“The Federal Ministry of Health in Germany has in line with the Robert Koch Institute announced that there is no evidence of sustained viral circulation in Germany at present. For this reason, the risk to the health in Germany currently remains low.”

There is no reason to restrict trade shows in Germany at the moment according to AUMA . Risk factors are defined as either a stay in the affected risk regions within the last 2 weeks or a contact with any person who has been tested positive for an infection with the COVID-19/coronavirus.

“There are no entry bans to Germany for citizens from China, Asia or Italy at the moment. The Extraordinary Council of EU Health Ministers states that air travelers might be asked before landing in Europe if they have been in risk regions or in contact with persons who have been tested positive for an infection with the COVID-19/coronavirus.”

“To protect our exhibitors and visitors we are maintaining the additional cleaning and disinfection measures on the fairgrounds of Messe Berlin GmbH. In addition, everyone should follow the protective measures recommended by the Robert Koch Institute: wash hands frequently and thoroughly, observe sneezing and coughing, avoid shaking hands,” ITB Berlin said.

Russia is the official Convention and Culture Partner of ITB Berlin 2020. The World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) is co-host, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), MC Group and Trip.com are Platinum Sponsors and Studiosus is Gold Sponsor.

    ITB China postponed

Similarly, the ITB China organizers have postponed ITB China 2020, originally scheduled to be held on 13 – 15 May at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.

The decision is based on the current risk evaluation of the COVID19 epidemic by local and global authorities.

“To ensure the safety of ITB China’s exhibitors and visitors, the organisers decided to postpone ITB China 2020, and in a responsible way allow all participants to make necessary arrangements in a timely manner. The ITB China organisers will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates based on official assessments of the overall risk situation.”

ITB India to be held in Mumbai

However, ITB India, a 3-day business-to-business trade show and convention, will be held in Mumbai, India on 15 – 17 April 2020. The show is organized by Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and supported by Messe Berlin (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

“ITB India brings together key travel industry leaders and international exhibitors from various segments of MICE, Leisure, Corporate and Travel & Technology to capture the fast-growing Indian and South Asian markets, to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing business relations with the most important players in India,” according to ITB India.
