Joe Biden won’t end travel restrictions, passengers need proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test

US President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming White House press secretary says his administration does not intend to lift coronavirus travel restrictions for Europe, the U.K., Ireland and Brazil .
The message from Jen Psaki came Monday evening after the White House said President Donald Trump had lifted the restrictions for those countries, effective Jan. 26, according to Associated Press news.
“On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26.In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” Psaki tweeted.
Donald Trump imposed the travel restrictions on Europe last March to control the spread of the coronavirus to the U.S. , but the White House decreed on Monday ( Jan 18) that the entry ban to USA would end on 26 January , six days after Biden takes office.
Meanwhile , all airline passengers traveling to the United States, including U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs), need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test or recovery from COVID-19.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director has signed an order requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test while entering the United States .
“ Effective Jan 26, all airline passengers to the United States aged two years and older must provide either a negative COVID-19 viral test taken within three calendar days of travel or provide a positive test result and documentation from a licensed health care provider or public health official of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel , ” according to a Health Alert issued by U.S. Department of State -Consular Affairs .
“Airlines must deny boarding to passengers who do not meet these requirements. U.S. citizens in countries where adequate COVID-19 testing is not available or may not be able to satisfy the requirements, should depart immediately or prepare to be unable to return to the United States until such time as they can meet the requirements, “it stated.
