Meilan Airport named second-best regional airport in China and fourth-best in Asia

GENEVA – At the 2012 SKYTRAX World’s Best Airport Awards show in Geneva, Switzerland, SKYTRAX, the UK’s authoritative advisory group of the civil aviation industry, announced that Haikou Meilan International Airport had won second place in the Best Regional Airport in China category and fourth place in the Best Regional Airport in Asia category, coming second only to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.

It is a special award that Meilan Airport has won once again after winning “the Best Airport of SKYTRAX Region” and the “Four-Star Airport of SKYTRAX Region” awards in 2011. The survey covers more than 240 airports around the world. The results are determined by more than 10 million passengers from over 100 countries worldwide, through questionnaire surveys and votes. The selection involved the experience with 39 service products, including traveler departures, arrivals and transit processes.

Meanwhile, the SKYTRAX institutions also investigated travelers with survey forms. Travelers were asked to evaluate and score the airports through categories that included the comfort of the airport terminal, equipment and facilities, cleanliness of toilets, security inspection services, immigration services, air route services, ground transportation, shopping and dining, as well as politeness of airport staff. Survey results showed that Meilan Airport’s terminal environment, staff attitude and terminal cleanliness were evaluated relatively highly by the visitors.

The top 10 Best Regional Airports in Asia Pacific region are as follows: 1) Central Japan International Airport; 2) Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport; 3) Gimpo International Airport; 4) Haikou Meilan International Airport; 5) Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport; 6) Bangaluru International Airport (Bangalore); 7) Fukuoka Airport; 8) Sanya Phoenix International Airport; 9) Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport; 10) Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.-SKYTRAX
