More than 1.4 m people leave Kathmandu valley for Dashain festival ,outbound travel up

Kathmandu, Oct.6: More than 1.4 millon people have left Kathmandu valley for their homes to celebrate Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepali Hindus.
Dashain is celebrated all over the country from October 5 to 18 .The number of people leaving Kathmandu valley increased up to October 11 ,the seventh day of the festival.
According to the transport entrepreneurs, more than 1.4 million people left the Valley for their home towns during Dashain by private and public transport this year compared to last year. The ticket sales show that 1.3 million left for their homes by public transport last year.
Similarly, the number of Nepalis traveling to tourist destinations abroad during Dashain has increased this year according to the tour operators.Travel agencies selling outbound tour packages say the number of Nepalis holidaying abroad during Dashain is up by around 20 percent compared to the festive season of last year.
Different travel agencies have introduced special packages targeting Nepalis during Dashain and Tihar festival this year.
The special packages include visits to cities of Indian Golden Triangle – New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, Mumbai, Goa , Thailand, Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore, , Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius China , Europe and Australia, among others.
The trend of visiting different destinations of Asia-Pacific and European countries is going up in recent years during the Dashain festival.
Likewise, thousands of Nepalis working in India and Arab countries are returning to their home to celebrate the biggest festival of the Nepali Hindus.
The number of people coming back to their homes through the various entry points of the Nepal- India border has increased sharply in recent days.
Every year, thousands of people from various parts of the country travel to India seeking employment opportunities and the arrival of festivals bring most of them to back their villages and home towns.
The Nepalis returning from different parts of India face many risks during their journey to Nepal. Many of them are robbed while they travel on Indian trains or at the border entry points.
