• Nepal at CITM 2012:NTB marks 14th anniversary

    Kathmandu: Nepal participated in China International Travel Mart (CITM) 2012 held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in the Chinese commercial city of Shanghai.

    CITM , jointly organized by China National Tourism Administration and Civil Aviation Administration of China, is one of the biggest and major Travel Trade Shows in China which focuses on inbound and outbound tourism. 

    Eight Nepalese private participants: Asia Explore Adventure and Travel, Adventure Outdoor Excursion, Saathi Nepal Travels and Tours, Nepal Social Treks and Expedition, Global Holidays Tours and Travels, Kudan Travel and Tours, Yeti Mountain Home and Tourism Nepal took part in this event. 

    Nepal stand occupying an area of 36 sq. m was decorated with graphics of tourism attractions of the country. More than three thousand visitors visited Nepal stand and received information on tourism attractions of Nepal. NTB distributed the collateral in Chinese language to the visitors and exhibitors during the Show.

    Nepal being the first country in South Asia to receive the status of Approved Destination has tremendous potential to be favorite destination among Chinese tourists,NTB release states.Nepal Tourism Board was represented by Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Director and Mr. Sudhan Subedi, Officer.

    Meanwhile, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) marked its 14th anniversary on November 18.On the occasion, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati stressed that the NTB´s activities should be focused on poverty alleviation and income-generation of the rural people.

    The NTB was established in 1998 with a view to promoting the country´s tourism business under the public-private partnership ( PPP) model.

    Minister Bogati honoured non-resident Nepali Dhruba KC who is the Hononary PRR of Nepal Tourism Board in the United Kingdom in recognition of his long contribution to the promotion of tourism sector in Nepal. Besides, a souvenir titled In Focus published on the occasion of the NTB 14th establishment day was unveiled.

    According to information made available by Board Chairman and Secretary at Tourism Ministry Yagya Prasad Gautam during the programme, the Board has planned to organize ´tourism mart´ in Lumbini, Pokhara and Kathmandu with the support from India.

    NTB Officiating Chief Executive Officer Subash Niroula said although the Board has the sources amounting to Rs. 500 million it has not been able to come up with effective programmes for development of the tourism sector.

    NTB Trade Union President Pradeep Basnet underlined the need of cooperation between the public and private sector to develop Nepal into a safe and reliable tourist destination.
