Nepal- China relations exemplary and harmonious : Foreign Minister Wang

KATHMANDU: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Nepal could be a bridge to connect China with South Asian countries.
Wang suggested Nepal to maintain relations with both India and China. “Nepal can be a bridge between two rapidly growing economies of India and China. We want Nepal to be the bridge between China and South Asia. We are ready to discuss it.Nepal is uniquely located between two large neighbours. We want Nepal to develop good relations with both the countries ,” he said.
“China wishes to transform the bilateral comprehensive partnership cooperation to an everlasting friendship with Nepal and focus it on mutual benefits,” visiting Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi said addressing the joint press conference with the Nepali counterpart Mahendra Pandey.
Expressing readiness to extend help to Nepal in various nine prioritized areas – trade, investment, infrastructure development, energy, capacity building, science and technology, agriculture, tourism, security and law enforcement, China announced increased annual aid to Nepal from 150 million RMB to 800 million RMB.
“China is ready to support Nepal in its bid to graduate from a Least Developed Country by 2022. China gives highest priority to hydropower development in Nepal.”
Wang said that Nepal is rich in natural resources with beautiful mountains and splendid culture, adding that stable and peaceful Nepal would not benefit itself but also its neighboring countries including China.
Addressing a reception hosted in his honour by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai, Wang said China has emphasised on friendship with neighboring countries since President Xi Jinping took office. “President Xi Jinping has put forward four principles guiding its neighborhood diplomacy – amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness.”
” We will continue to follow the principles of amity, sincerity and mutual benefit and inclusiveness in conducting neighborhood diplomacy, and build a community of shared interests and common destiny with our neighbours, ” Wang added.
Foreign Minister Wang also separately held a meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala during his three day visit to Nepal besides attending a function to inaugurate Armed Police Force (APF) Academy in Kathmandu.
Wang hailed Nepal-China relations as “exemplary and harmonious” during a meeting with Prime Minister of Nepal.”We believe Nepal’s political parties will uphold fundamental national interests while carving the constitution,” he said.
The Premier extended invitations to the Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Nepal as Nepal and China willcelebrate 60 years of the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 2015.
He handed over Rs 200 million worth medical equipment to Civil Service Hospital .The 132-bed hospital builing was constructed at a cost of Rs 650 million by the Chinese Government.
Minister Wang leading a seven-member Chinese delegation arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day official goodwill visit to Kathmandu on Dec 25. Wang stayed at Nagarkot on the first night of his visit and will visit Dhulikhel before leaving for Dhaka on Dec.27.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi is on an official visit to Nepal and Bangladesh from December 26 to 29.
