    Nepal, China sign nine agreements , Foreign Minister Wang Yi hands over Pokhara Int’l Airport

    Nine different agreements (MoU) were signed between Nepal and China at a ceremony held at presence of visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Dr Narayan Khadka today.

    The agreements cover economic and technical cooperation, technical assistance schemes,  feasibility study of China-Nepal cross-border railway project , feasibility study of China-Nepal power grid interconnection , protocol on the safety and health conditions of Haylage grass export ,  duty-free treatment for imported goods in China , Araniko highway maintenance project and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal.  

    Earlier , Visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and Minister Khadka discussed on various aspects of Nepal-China relations.   

    Expressing his gratitude for medical equipment and COVID-19 vaccines provided by the Chinese Government and reiterating Nepal’s firm commitment to its one-China policy, the minister drew the attention of the Chinese minister to negative impacts on the country’s economy due to the country’s blocked transits with China.    

    Similarly , Chinese Minister Wang Yi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today at PM official residence in Baluwatar today.

    Minister Wang together with PM Deuba  virtually attended the hand over ceremony of symbolic key of the Pokhara Regional International Airport. 

    Ninety-three per cent of the construction of the Pokhara Regional International Airport has been completed.The project is under construction with a concessional loan of Rs 22 billion from Exim Bank of China.   

    Earlier , State Councilor and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi enjoyed hiking in Shivapuri area of Kathmandu .

    The 17-member Chinese delegation led by Foreign Minister Wang comprises Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wu Jianghao, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Commerce, Sheng Qiuping, Director-General, the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liu Jinsong, Deputy Director-General, Information Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jiang Xiaoyan, Deputy Director-General, Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Song Jia and Secretary to State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang, Deng Zhi.
