Nepal government selects 200 destinations for tourism development

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has selected 200 new sites across the country to develop the physical infrastructure of these destinations for promotion of tourism.
The Ministry of Tourism has allocated Rs. 6.80 billion for the development and promotion of these new tourist destinations.
Besides, rural municipalities are required to contribute 30 per cent of the total cost, municipalities 35 per cent, sub-metropolitans 40 per cent, metropolitans 50 per cent and provinces 50 per cent.The development of these locations will be implemented in partnership with the local levels.
Among the selected new sites, 55 are from Province 1, 23 from Province 2, 31 from Bagmati, 23 from Gandaki, 25 from Lumbini, 17 from Karnali and 26 from Sudur Pashchim Province.
The selected projects include parks, picnic spots, temples, monasteries, roads, foot trails, cycle tracks, shopping malls and museums, according to the Ministry.
The ministry had asked the local levels to submit proposals for the development and promotion of tourism infrastructure and tourism-associated products in their areas recently.
Similarly, 10 places of Jhapa have been included in the list to promote tourism. The 10 locations selected for promotion in Jhapa are the Haluwagadh in Arjundhara, Domukha in Shivasatakshi, Kankai community botanical garden in Kankai, Science City in Bhadrapur, the Bhegadhi democratic martyrs memorial park in Haldibarai, Sadhupati Falls and wetlands in Barhadashi, Kechana of Kachankewal and Korobari wetlands in Gaurigung.
All the projects are estimated to cost Rs. 50 million each on average.
