    Kathmandu:  Nepal and India have launched Ramayan Circuit and Janakpur – Ayodhya bus service to promote religious tourism between the two countries.

    Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the Ramayan Circuit and flagged off Nepal-India Friendship bus service between Janakpur and Ayodhya of India at a special ceremony held in the Janaki Temple in Janakpurdham today.

    “India and Nepal will work towards building ‘Ramayan’ circuit between both the countries. This will act as a foundation for strong people-to-people contact between the two nations,” Modi said.

    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Janakpur via a special Air India flight on a two-day state visit to Nepal. Prime Minister Oli welcomed his Indian counterpart Modi on the premises of Janaki Temple in Janakpur.

    On the occasion, both the Prime Ministers highlighted the special historic and cultural relations between the two countries.

    Modi announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 billion for the development of Janakpur during his address at  a civic reception at Janakpur .

    Janakapurdham city , named after the dynasty of King Janak, was the capital of Mithila Province in a mythical period.

    The Janaki Temple is taken as the home of Janaki ( Hindu goddess Sita), daughter of King Janak and spouse of Shree Ram, the then king of Ayodhya, India.

    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kathmandu after attending civic reception in Janakpur on Friday.

    Both the Prime Ministers are likely to sign a number of pacts and  lay foundation of 900 -MW Arun  hydroelectricity project to be built in eastern Nepal.

    Apart from holding official talks in Kathmandu , Modi will visit Muktinath of Mustang district on Saturday. tomorrow.

    The government of India has developed 23 destinations as Ramayan circuit and Krishna circuit to promote tourism.

    More than 11 destinations spread across 6 states have been developed under Ramayana Circuit in India .The destinations covered are: Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringhverpur , Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh); Sitamarhi, Buxar , Darbhanga (Bihar); Jagdalpur (Chattisgarh); Bhadrachalam (Telangana); Hampi (Karnataka); and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu) ,  Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), Nashik and Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Mahendragiri (Odisha) .
