Nepal , Japan to resume direct flights , both countries stress on strengthening cooperation

Kathmandu: Nepal and Japan have agreed to resume direct flights between the two countries.
Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali signed the Exchange of Notes on the amendment of the schedule of the air services agreement here today.
The two countries signed the Exchange of Notes for revising the Air Service Agreement between Nepal and Japan signed in 1993.
Similarly, a Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the two countries will provide a platform to discuss modalities for extending the cooperation, review all aspects of bilateral relations, explore new areas of cooperation and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concerns.
The two countries enjoy a close, cordial and cooperative relations. Japan is one of the major development partners and one of the largest source countries of investment and tourists in Nepal.
Visiting foreign minister Kono and Nepali counterpart discussed on implementation of projects related to infrastructure building, connectivity and energy, according to MOFA Nepal.
The ministers exchanged views on sending Nepali labour force to Japanese labour market under new immigration policy introduced by Japan.
The two foreign ministers stressed the need of joint efforts for tourism promotion of Nepal in Japan to make the Visit Nepal Year 2020 successful.
The number of Japanese tourists visiting Nepal is expected to increase after resuming direct flights between the two countries. Japan will provide slots to NAC aircraft at the Osaka and Narita airports for direct air service between the two countries.
More than 27,000 Japanese nationals visited Nepal in 2017, while the number of Nepali visitors to Japan has reached over 39,000.
