Nepal Mountaineering Association elects new leadership

Kathmandu: Senior travel entrepreneur and mountain expert Ang Tshering Sherpa has been elected President of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
The election to elect six office-bearers and nine members of executive committee of NMA held on February 21, 2014 here in Kathmandu elected new leadership of NMA for next three years.
The panel led by Honorary member of UIAA and former President of NMA Mr. Ang Thering Sherpa swept the election winning all 15 posts in the new executive committee. Mr. Sherpa, who garnered 473 votes, defeated his competitor Nima Nuru Sherpa by 82 votes.Nima Nuru was earlier Vice President of NMA.
The newly elected President Ang Tshering Sherpa, who is also the honorary member of Union of International Alpine Association (UIAA), has committed to strengthen NMA activities for overall development of mountain tourism in Nepal.
A total of 906 votes were casted out of 1159 members in the NMA election . The election result of NMA is as follows –

Election for one institutional member and four book holders and mountaineers registered at NMA also elected the members to be represented in the new executive committee of NMA.These newly elected members are summiteers Dorjee Khatri, Padam Ghale , Pasang Bhote , Mingma Sherpa and Pasang Tenzi Sherpa .
Nepal Mountaineering Association, established on 1 November 1973, is an alpine association of Nepal committed to promote mountain tourism, climbing sports, protect mountain environment and preserve cultural heritage of mountain people. NMA is authorized to issue climbing permits for 33 mountain peaks by the Government of Nepal.
