Nepal Mountaineering Association honours mountaineers

Kathmandu : The Nepal Mountaineers’ Association (NMA) recently honoured different personalities at a programme organized on the occasion of 40th anniversary of its establishment.
Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) celebrated its 40th Anniversary with the various programs . Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha was chief guest for the program.
On the occasion, Lakpa Sherpa was awarded with Kumar Khadga Bikram Adventurous Award – 2013 for his contribution in adventurous rescue activity in mountain and mountaineering.
Dr. Harka Gurung Mountaineering Award -2013 was awarded to Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) for its appreciative contribution to the promotion of Nepal’s mountain tourism globally through the operation of health camps for medical services at Everest Base Camp, Pheriche, Manang and other mountain areas.
Senior reporter of National News Agency ( RSS ) Bikas Lohani received Dawa Norbu Mountaineering Tourism Journalism Award 2013 for his active involvement in disseminating information about mountain environment conservation and mountain tourism .
The famous mountaineer popularly known as snow leopard Ang Rita Sherpa was also felicitated in the program for his contribution as Honorary Field Director at NMA. He was appointed as permanent staff of NMA in this post in 2050 B.S. for his record of Everest ascent of 10 times within ten years without oxygen.
The Minister also distributed certificates to the trainees of Basic Mountaineering Course 2013 and NMA Trek Leader Course (Basic).
NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa highlighted on the activities of NMA since its establishment and major activities related with human resource development, conservation of environment ,local development, international relations, and sport climbing activities.
