Nepal mountaineering : NMA elects new leadership

Kathmandu: Nepal Mountaineering Association has elected new leadership for the next three years. Senior travel entrepreneur Nima Nuru Sherpa has been elected President of the association.
Sherpa, who garnered 735 votes, defeated his competitor Rajendra Man Shrestha by 613 votes in the election held here on Friday (10 June).
Almost all candidates of Nima’s panel are elected in the new executive committee. Nima N. Sherpa is Executive Chairman of Altitude Air P Ltd.
Similarly, Thakur Raj Pandey has been elected as the senior vice president of the NMA with 428 votes. His competitor Maya Sherpa got 423 votes. Climber Maya had led her panel in the election .
Aang Dawa Sherpa, Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, Mohan Lamsal , Dhan Bahadur Gurung and Mukti Pandey are elected as the first vice president , second vice president, General Secretary , secretary and treasurer respectively.
Similarly, Angdawa Sherpa, Kishan Gurung, Singi Lama, Pitamber Gurung, Rajendra Bahadur Lama, Ram Chandra Dhamala, Namgyal Jangbu Sherpa, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, Dinesh Tamang, Ngima Doma Sherpa and Doma Sherpa have been elected members of the new executive committee.
Election for one institutional member and four book holders and mountaineers registered at NMA also elected the members to be represented in the new executive committee of NMA.
Newly elected President Sherpa has committed to carry out different programs to develop mountain tourism in the country .
Nepal Mountaineering Association, established on 1 November 1973, is an alpine association of Nepal committed to promote mountain tourism, climbing sports, protect mountain environment and preserve cultural heritage of mountain people.
NMA is authorized to issue climbing permits for 27 mountain peaks by the Government of Nepal. A total of 2049 members are registered at NMA .
