    Nepal slashes royalty to climb Mt. Everest and other Himalayas

    Kathmandu: Nepal Government has reduced the royalty for mountaineers climbing Mt. Everest with effect from January 1, 2015.

    According to the Ministry of Tourism, the government has announced slash to mountaineering fees to attract more climbers from different parts of the world .

    The royalty for climbing Mount Everest on the normal route from Nepal side has been reduced to 11,000 US $ per person for foreigners during the spring climbing season, down from the previous rate of 25,000 $.The fees have also been lowered for autumn and winter seasons.

    The royalty for Nepali mountaineers also has been reduced .Royalty for Nepalese climbers will come into effect from 13 February 2014 .

    Likewise, the Mountaineering royalty has been totally waived to the mountains situated on Mid Western and Far Western Development Region of Nepal for 5 years effecting from 16 July 2013 to 15 July 2018.

    Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal has expected that the timely amendment in royalty for mountaineering in Nepal will be the milestone for the promotion of mountain tourism .

    The season is  clarified as – Spring ( March, April, May), Summer ( June, July, August), Autumn ( September, October, November) and Winter ( December, January, February).

    As per the notice published in Nepal Gazette on 12 February 2014, the Royalty for mountaineering in Nepal has been amended for foreign and Nepalese climbers as follows :
