Nepal wins Best Int’l Destination Award at Pune IITM 2012
Kathmandu : Highlighting Nepal as home of Mt. Everest and birthplace of Lord Buddha, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with 6 prominent travel trade partners from Nepal showcased diverse tourism attractions offering special packages for Pune’s ardent travelers, at India International Travel Mart (IITM) in Maharashtra, India from 23-25 Nov 2012.
During the exhibition, NTB officials interacted with media, tour operators and general visitors and persuaded the media to make attractive publicity coverage in popular Marathi papers like Kesari, Sakal, Dainik Prabhat and local television channels and disseminate the message that Nepal is not just the nearest international destination with value for money but a gateway to various Himalayan treks in Nepal and also to Mt. Kailash in Tibet, China.
Besides the pilgrimage tours of Pashupatinath and Muktinath, city tours of Kathmandu , Pokhara and Chitwan, Nepal is increasingly becoming the nearest international trekking destination for the Pune youth, following the successful ascent of Mt. Everest by a Marathi Expedition team “Giripremi” in spring of 2012.
Having the prime location for Nepal stall, right at the entrance, Nepal stall remained crowded throughout the fair days and received positive coverage in local media. At a special ceremony conducted by the organizers, during the IITM 2012 Awards Nite, Nepal was recognized as the “Best Decorated International Stall” as well as the “Best International Destination of the Year”.
While Indians have taken overseas travel as a part of their lifestyle, Nepal with the best flight connectivity from India, has succeeded in receiving nearly 150 thousand Indian visitors in the last ten months which is about 20% of annual growth from India.
