    Nepali climbers make history , scale world’s 2nd highest Mount K2 in winter

    Kathmandu: A team of 10 Nepali mountaineers successfully climbed K2, making history as the first team ever to climb the world’s second-highest mountain in the winter season.

    The 8,611-meter Mount K2 is one of the most difficult mountains to climb due to weather and geographical difficulties.

    The renowned climbers – Nirmal Purja , Mingma G, Gelje Sherpa ,  Mingma David Sherpa  ,  Sona Sherpa , Mingma Tenzi Sherpa ,  Pem Chhiri Sherpa ,  Dawa Temba Sherpa , Kili Pemba Sherpa and  Dawa Tenjing Sherpa reached the K2 summit  on Saturday afternoon ( January 16 ) .

    K2 is located on the China–Pakistan border and is the highest point of the Karakoram mountain range.

    Italian climbers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, of the 1954 Italian Karakoram expedition led by Ardito Desio, reached the summit of K2 for the first time on 31 July 1954.

    Meanwhile, climber Sergi Mingote lost his life while descending from K2 Camp 1 to Basecamp. He suddenly fell down to Advance Basecamp.

    14 climbers scale Mt. Ama Dablam

    Earlier, 14 climbers scaled 6812m Mt. Ama Dablam on 14 Jan 2021, according to climber Chhang Dawa Sherpa.

    A group of climbers from Arab countries comprising Fahad Badar from Qatar, Sherief Elabd from Egypt, and Nadhira Al Harthy from Oman climbed Mt Ama Dablam on Thursday. This is the first Arabi group ever to climb Mt. Ama Dablam in winter.

    Another team of International climbers also scaled the peak on Thursday. The climbers include a Turkish climber Tunc Findik and a Mexican female climber Viridiana Alvarez known for the fastest female to climb the top three 8000m peak.
