Nepali travel entrepreneurs demand restructuring of Tourism Board

Kathmandu: Tourism entrepreneurs representing various sectors of Nepali travel and tourism have demanded restructuring of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and transparency in the activities of the NTB.
The entrepreneurs have warned to lock up the office of NTB demanding appointment of new CEO as soon as possible. The employees of Nepal Tourism Board have also committed solidarity with the travel professionals.
Meanwhile , a joint meeting of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) decided to postpone the 6th National Tourism Fair, scheduled to begin in Kathmandu from May 2.
Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC), a forum of 19 travel trade associations, had earlier clarified that it would boycott the fair, unless its demands were addressed.
The delegation of newly formed Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) had submitted a four-point memorandum to to the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Bhim Acharya on April 22 demanding the ministry to postpone the fair and appoint board members from private sector in NTB on recommendations of travel trade associations.
Representatives of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tours and Travel Agents (NATTA), Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA), PATA Nepal Chapter, Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO), Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), Expeditions Operators Association Nepal (EOA Nepal), JTCC has said that it won’t cooperate with NTB until necessary action is taken in its demands Village Tourism Promotion Forum Nepal (VITOF), Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC), Association for Tourism, Pokhara Tourism Development Committee, Tourist Bus Association of Nepal, Nepal Tourist Vehicles Association, National Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (NEAT Nepal) and Nepal National Tourism Entrepreneurs Organizations are associated with the JTCC.
The JTCC has also urged the ministry to examine economic irregularities of the CEO of the board.Travel professionals have clarified that they won’t cooperate with NTB until their demands are fulfilled.
