    Singapore , Jan 24 :Singapore’s Changi Airport continues to uphold its position as one of the best airports in the world, reporting passenger traffic surpassing the 45 million mark for the first time in 2011.

    Changi Airport is pleased to announce a record breaking 46.5 million passenger movement and 302,000 aircraft movements during 2011, which represents an increase of 10.7 percent and 14.5 percent respectively.

    The healthy growth is attributed to strong travel demand in the Asia Pacific with Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia among the best performing regions, while traffic to and from South Asia and South west Pacific also reported strong growth.

    Maintaining its position as one of the best airports in the word, last year Changi received 23 accolades including the inaugural Singapore Service Excellence Medallion, sustaining its status as the world’s most awarded airports having acquired over 390 accolades since it’s opening in 1981.

    Changi airport was also highly regarded by business travellers with readers of Business Traveller UK and Business Traveller Asia-Pacific magazines voting for Changi as the Best Airport for the 24th and 20th consecutive year respectively.

    Changi Airport Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lee Seow Hiang said 2011 has been an eventful year for Changi Airport.Looking ahead, Mr Lee Seow Hiang said passengers can look forward to enjoying a brand new-looking terminal 1 when renovation works are completed later this year.
