    Tourism earnings and arrival up in India this year

    New Delhi : Foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) through tourism has increased to US$ 2.268 billion ( Indian RS 14,953 crore ) in March this year as compared to FEEs of US$ 1.958 billion during the month of March 2016 and US$ 1.783 billion in March 2015.

    Foreign exchange earnings during the period January- March 2017 is estimated to be US$ 6.907 billion with a growth of 15.4% as compared to  US$ 5.986 billion in January- March 2016  according to a statement issued by Ministry of Tourism India.

    Likewise, the foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in March, 2017 were 905 thousand ( 9.05 lakh ) as compared to FTAs of 8.17 lakh in March, 2016 and 7.29 lakh in March, 2015.

    FTAs during the period January- March 2017 were 28.45 lakh with a growth of 13.4%, as compared to the FTAs of 25.08 lakh with a growth of 10.0% in January- March 2015 over January- March 2014.

    The top 10 source countries regarding foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India during March 2017 were Bangladesh , USA , UK , Russia, Malaysia , Canada , Germany, Sri Lanka , China and  France.

    Similarly, a total of 146 thousand (1.46 lakh ) tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared in March this year .

     A total of 467 thousand (4.67 lakh) tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa during January- March 2017, as compared to 3.21 lakh during January-March 2016, registering a growth of 45.6 per cent according to PIB India.
