    Tourism entrepreneurs postpone protest programs

    Kathmandu: Tourism entrepreneurs united under the Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) have postponed all protest programs including sit-in and relay hunger strike at Nepal Tourism Board.

    The JTCC decided to postpone protest programmes after Minister for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Bhim Acharya agreed to include two private sector representatives in probe team formed by the Ministry to investigate on the demands put forward by the JTCC.

    The JTCC has recommended Coordinator of JTCC and TAAN President Ramesh Dhamala and Chandra Prasad Rijal , President of Nepal National Tourism Entrepreneurs’ Association to represent in the taskforce for restructuring of NTB.

    Similarly, Deepak Mahat, Central Coordinator of Nepal Entrepreneurs’ Association for Tourism-Nepal (NEAT-Nepal) and Ganesh Simkhada, Coordinator of National Tourism Entrepreneurs’ Forum will represent probe team headed by Joint Secretary Purna Chandra Bhattarai.

    Earlier, Minister Acharya urged the agitating Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) to help the ministry for investigation over alleged irregularities at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).”The ministry is ready to take legal action against anyone found guilty in this connection “, he added.

    JTCC had launched protest programs in the last week of April demanding removal of Subash Niraula from the post of acting CEO of NTB to pave the way for early appointment of new CEO, independent audit of expenditures made by NTB over the past five years, and institutional representation of private sector in the board of NTB, among others.

    More than 20 travel and tourism organizations are united under JTCC.
