Tourism ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries agree to implement Action Plan

Wuhan, China: Tourism ministers from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ( SCO) have agreed to strengthen cooperation to promote tourism between the SCO countries .
The first Tourism Ministers’ Meeting of SCO member states was officially held on May 9, in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province.
The meeting examined and passed the Joint 2019-2020 Draft Action Plan for Implementing the SCO Tourism Cooperation Programme and reached consensuses on seven principles including the draft document.
Li Jinzao, vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, chaired the meeting and Yang Yunyan, vice-governor of Hubei province, delivered a speech on behalf of the provincial government.
“Tourism can be one of the most promising cooperation areas among SCO member states, which have more consensus and fewer differences,” said Li Jinzao.
Li suggested that SCO member states work together to promote culture heritage such as the Silk Road and streamline allocation and management of tourism resources. They can also coordinate tourism industrial planning and policies, he said.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Aziz Nosirov said that SCO member states had rich tourism resources and should spend more effort in the sector to enhance people-to-people friendship and understanding.
Representatives from tourism authorities of India, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and SCO attended the meeting.
Founded in Shanghai in 2001, the SCO has eight member states: China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
