    Tourist arrivals by air 282,429 during January- July this year

    Kathmandu : A total of 282,429 tourists have visited Nepal in the first seven months of 2013.

    Aggregate visitor arrivals by air decreased by 15.1 per cent to 282,429 for the period January -July 2013 compared to the same period last year. A total of 332,472 tourists had visited Nepal during January-July, 2012.

    According to the figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), visitor arrivals in the month of July 2013, compared to the same month last year, have increased by 0.28 per cent to 38,560. 

    The arrivals from South Asian region have shown mixed performance. The arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have increased by 32.26 per cent and 61.68 per cent respectively whereas India and Pakistan markets declined by 15.74 per cent and 57.76 per cent respectively.

    Visitor arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia region) have recorded positive growth of 14.36 per cent with China and Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand showing positive growth. However, arrivals from Singapore and Japan have registered negative growths.

    A total of 12,639 tourists from India and 4957 tourists from China visited Nepal in July, 2013.

    From long-haul markets, Europe registered an overall positive growth. Arrivals from Belgium, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, and Russia have recorded positive growth where as arrivals from Denmark, Germany, France, Norway, Spain and Switzerland decreased.

    Likewise, arrivals from Canada, United States of America and Australia showed positive growth while New Zealand showed decrease in arrival figure.

    A total of 43,063 foreign tourists departed from TIA in July 2013.The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 67,422 while 89,159 Nepalese departed from TIA in July 2013.
