• Tourist arrivals to Nepal declined by 4.6 per cent in June this year

    Kathmandu, July 4: Tourist arrivals have decreased by 4.6 per cent in June, 2013.Tourist arrivals witnessed slight growth in May following a decline in March and April this year.

    According to the figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) , visitor arrivals in the month of June 2013 decreased by 4.6 per cent to 41259 as compared to the same month last year.

    Visitor arrivals from India, the largest source market for Nepal, witnessed a decline of 15.3 per cent this year. A total of 19760 tourists from India and 3491 from China visited Nepal in June, 2013.The visitor arrivals from China registered a growth of 25.7 per cent compared to the same month last year.

    In aggregate, the South Asian segment registered negative growth of 12.5 per cent. Arrivals from Pakistan have decreased by 28.8 per cent, whereas arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have increased by 53.8 per cent and 62.9 per cent respectively.

    Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have recorded positive growth of 20.8 per cent. The arrivals from Malaysia and Singapore have increased, but arrivals from Japan, South Korea and Thailand markets declined in June.

    An overall positive growth of 1.4 per cent has been observed from the European markets with increased arrivals from markets such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. However, arrivals from France and Russia have declined compared to the same month last year.

    Tourist arrivals from Australia have increased by 33.3 per cent, whereas arrivals from New Zealand, Canada and the USA have decreased .

    International tourist arrivals to Nepal have declined by 3.9 per cent to 282,429 between January to June 2013.

    A total of 50,312 foreign tourists departed from TIA in June 2013. The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 57931 while 82167 Nepalese departed from TIA in June 2013 according to a release of NTB.
