US advises its citizens to avoid travelling to India

Travel Biz News —
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of USA has advised its citizens to avoid travelling to India amid a massive surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
In a statement, the CDC said: “Because of the current situation in India even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India. If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travellers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands.”
“If you are fully vaccinated, then do not have to get tested before leaving the United States, unless your destination requires it and you do not have to self-quarantine after you arrive in the United States,” it said.
The United Kingdom has already added India to its travel “red list” on a precautionary basis after reporting new cases of a coronavirus variant .
The Covid-19 situation in India has been deteriorating amid the second wave of coronavirus infections.
Similarly , the U.S. State Department announced plans to expand travel advisories, urging U.S. citizens to stay home as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose “unprecedented risks” around the globe.
The updated travel guidelines are intended to curb visits “to approximately 80% of countries worldwide” that are experiencing dramatic spikes in cases, the department said in a statement.
The latest recommendations come as the coronavirus “continues to pose unprecedented risks to travelers,” and the new guidelines “better reflect the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s science-based Travel Health Notices,” according to the notice.
“As always, we are closely monitoring conditions around the globe, and will regularly update our destination-specific advice to U.S. travelers as conditions evolve , ” the State Department added. – ( Inputs from ANI/NPR )
