Vietnam: 13 million tourist arrivals in 9 months 2024

Around 12.7 million tourists travelled to Vietnam in the first nine months of 2024, 43% more than the same period of 2023 , according to latest report of General Statistics Office (GSO).
Vietnam hopes to attract 17 – 18 million visitors’ arrivals in 2024.
Data shows 1.27 million visitor arrival in September, increasing 20.9% over September 2023, reducing 12% to last month. One of reasons is said to be super typhoon Yagi in the North of Vietnam with great devastation, seriously affecting tourism service in key tourist destinations such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ha Noi, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Tuyen Quang.
The storm’s circulation also caused flooding for many days in many northern provinces and cities, causing damage to infrastructure, roads, people, and disrupting travel and tourism activities.
Korea remained the top first tourism source market with 3.37 million visitor arrivals (accounting for 26.5%), following by China (2.7 million, 21.3%).
Top ten source markets include Taiwan (China), US, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Northeast Asia markets drove the recovery of international arrivals. In which, the China was up 141.4% over the same period in 2023, Korea (+30.3%), Japan (+27.6%), Taiwan of China (+65.8%).
Number of Southeast Asia visitors from Indonesia , Philippines , Laos ,, Cambodia , Malaysia , Singapore increased , while tourists from Thailand decreased during the period.
Similarly , tourists from European markets – UK , France , Germany , Italy , Spain , Russia , Denmark , Norway , and Sweden increased.
