    Vietnam’s ‘Timeless Charm’

Hanoi:The new Vietnam Tourism slogan and symbol made public at the end of last year has been criticised by, Director of Hanoitourist, Luu Duc Ke, saying it does not help tourists imagine the beauty of Vietnamese tourism.

The slogan “Vietnam – Timeless Charm” and the symbol of a five petal lotus, designed by Tran Hoai Duc, replaced the previous slogan “Vietnam – Hidden Charm,” which displays a lotus bud symbol, according to VietNamNet.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s (VNAT) Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, said symbolizing the beauty of Vietnam, the lotus chosen has five petals which in Oriental philosophy is a good number representing vitality. The rest of the symbol is coloured bright green colour, representing Vietnam’s major tourism product which is island and sea tourism; the green colour presents ecological tourism and the nature; the yellow colour symbolises the country’s cultural and historical tourism; violet for adventure tourism and pink displaying Vietnamese’s hospitality.

Mr Ke said he the meaning of the logo is hard to understand without explanation. “Our products that use this logo will have to be accompanied with explanation to highlight the logo meaning,” he commented.

Director for the Viet Media and Tourism Company, Tran Van Long, also commented on the vagueness and difficulty to understand the logo.“International tourists cannot image how Vietnam is when they look at the logo and slogan. Long said that the best tourism slogan so far is “Vietnam – The destination of the new millennium,” Mr Long said.

Tourist representatives from other Vietnam regions also commented with their opinions of the new slogan, awaiting VNAT’s action program and the launched of event to go with the new logo. However many people, even travel firms, do not know about the change of the tourism logo.
