Kathmandu – Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign formally kicked off here amid a special ceremony on January 1 . The Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign aims to attract two million tourists in 2020 and promote Nepal as a popular destination in the world tourism market.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari, inaugurating the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign, urged all the people and stakeholders to contribute to make the campaign a success.
On the occasion, , Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai said that VNY 2020 campaign will create a new benchmark in tourism and new image of Nepal in the minds of the people across the globe.
“Our aim is to welcome 3.5 million tourists annually after five years. New products and destinations will be developed, and more promotional activities will be implemented for Nepal’s branding at the international level in order to achieve the goal, “Bhattarai said.
Indian Minister of Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel, Jamaican Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, Wang Xiaofeng of China and Tourism Minister of Myanmar U Ohn Mauug attended the special event.

Tourism Sector has been contributing around 3 per cent of the total of Nepal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at present. The Government has aimed to increase the figure to 10 per cent by the end of current 15th Five-year plan.
Nepal government also aims to increase the daily expenditure of foreign tourists from 44 Dollars to 80 Dollars this year.
A total of 11,73,072 tourists visited Nepal in 2018 and 10,97, 571 in the last eleven months of 2019.
