G20 Tourism Ministers stress on resumption of travel tourism for global economic recovery

The G20 Ministers of Tourism and representatives of international organizations have emphasized on resumption of travel and tourism for global economic recovery due to direct and indirect economic impact of tourism sector.
Travel and tourism are key drivers for sustainable , balanced growth and development and they represent a valuable contribution to the G20 agenda.
The G20 Ministers of Tourism concluded their virtual meet examining measures aimed at steering the recovery of the tourism sector in Rome , Italy on Tuesday (May 4).
Participants endorsed the “G20 Rome Guidelines for the Future of Tourism”, developed consistently with the priorities of Italy’s G20 Presidency – People, Planet and Prosperity – and committed to take action in seven key interrelated policy areas – safe mobility , crisis management , resilience , inclusiveness ,green transformation ,digital transition , investment and infrastructure , according to a statement issued by the G20 Italia.
Tourism continues to be one of the sectors hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with international tourist arrivals declining by 73 per cent globally in 2020 and unprecedented impacts on vulnerable groups and micro, small and medium enterprises.
With nearly 62 million travel and tourism jobs lost globally according to the WTTC , the outlook remains highly uncertain .
“We acknowledge that the crisis presents an opportunity to rethink tourism for the future, that the measures put in place today can shape a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive tourism sector and that such measures should seek to restore confidence in travel and tourism and enable economic recovery; learn from the experience of the pandemic; and prioritise a sustainable development agenda in guiding future tourism.”
The conference underlined the importance of cultural tourism as a means for affirming the value of culture as a resource for dialogue and mutual understanding among people, for the preservation and appreciation of cultural diversity and the conservation of cultural heritage.
The G20 is the international forum that brings together the world’s major economies and its members account for more than 80 per cent of world GDP, 75 per cent of global trade and 60 per cent of the population of the planet.
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union are the members of G20. Spain is invited as a permanent guest.
The conference highly evaluated Italian G20 Presidency for its leadership and agreed to continue cooperation to ensure further progress under Indonesia’s G20 Presidency in 2022.
