    Zhuhai, China – Veteran Nepali tourism entrepreneur Basant Raj Mishra, Executive Chairman of Temple Tiger Group of Companies, has been unanimously elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

    The PATA Executive Board Meeting and the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Association , held  in Zhuhai of China from May 16 to 18 , 2014 , urged all the countries of Asia Pacific to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector.

    PATA , one of the travel industry’s most prestigious organizations ,  plays a crucial role in promoting tourism to and from the Asia Pacific region, in addition to being the voice of Pacific Asia tourism in advocacy forums. The Association’s Operational Head Quarters are in Bangkok , Thailand and its registered Head Office is in Oakland, California, USA.

    Mishra has had a long association with PATA having served as chair of PATA’s Industry Council, Education Committee and a member for the Sustainable Tourism Committee before being elected to serve his present post.

    At the local level Mishra has played a leading role in PATA Nepal Chapter as its Chairman from 1992 to 1996 and as Vice Chairman and Treasurer prior to that. Mishra is a Past President of the Nepal Association of Tour Operators, the representative body for tour operators in Nepal. He has also served on the Tourism Committee of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries and serves presently on its Labor Committee.

    Mishra is the first Nepali to serve as an elected Official of PATA at its Executive Board level in its 63 year history.

    Similarly, Suman Pandey, the present Chairman of PATA Nepal Chapter, has been nominated to serve a term on PATA’s Board. Ashok Pokharel, another long time PATA hand and incumbent President of the Nepal Association of Tour Operators and a former PATA Nepal Chapter Chairman, has been re-nominated to the PATA Board for an additional year.
