Macau welcomes APEC Ministerial tourism meeting

MACAU – Macau is hosting the 8th Ministerial meeting of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) tourism on September 13 . The event is regarded as an excellent opportunity to promote Macau’s image in the world and one of the most important events marking the 15th anniversary of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) according to government officials.
APEC is a forum for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, established in 1989. It currently has 21 member states and three countries with observer status.
With the aim of enhancing exchange and cooperation in tourism in the Asia-Pacific region as well as to promote tourism development in this region, the first ministerial meeting was held in 2000 in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
The APEC tourism ministerial meeting in Macau will be the first held in China hosted by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and organized by the MSAR .
A total of 152 attendees, including the tourism ministers and representatives of 21 APEC economies, delegates from the APEC Secretariat, the United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the Asia Pacific Travel Association (PATA), and the APEC Center for International Sustainable Tourism, have already registered for the event.
Prior to the opening of TMM8, the APEC Tourism Working Group discussed topics relating to integrated development of tourism and other industries; the use of technology for smart tourism; and connectivity issues.
With the theme “Exploration of Asia Pacific Tourism Cooperation and Future Development”, the five main topics for discussion during the meeting are related to exchanges between and discussions concerning integration of Asia Pacific tourism markets, facilitating transformation and growth of the tourism industry, promoting intelligent tourism with modern technology and interconnection of Asia Pacific travel, and encouraging low-carbon development and co-operation between tourism operators according to Macau Daily Times.
