Nepal trekking – TAAN elects new leadership

Kathmandu: The 37th Annual General Meeting of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has elected a new executive committee under the leadership of tourism entrepreneur Chandra Prasad Rijal .
The panel led by Chandra Rijal got victory in 15 of the 17 posts in the election of new executive committee .The trekking union of CPN ( UML ) had supported the panel led by Rijal.
Rijal received 411 votes while his competitor Sagar Pandey received 332 votes in the election held on October 15.Pandey was General Secretary in the outgoing executive committee of TAAN.
Similarly, TAAN Annual General Meeting elected Tashi Lhakpa Sherpa as senior vice president, Tej Bahadur Gurung as first vice president, Ram Prasad Sapkota as second vice president of the association.
Karna Bahadur Lama, Mukti Pandey, Lila Ballav Dahal and Krishna Man Shrestha were elected as general secretary, secretary, treasurer and joint-treasurer respectively.
Likewise, Sarita Lama, Nawang Nima Sherpa, Devi Pandey, Rudra Jung Adhikari, Wangchu Sherpa, Basudev Lamsal, Dambar Bahadur Adhikari, Taranath Lamichhane and Pemba Sherpa were elected members of the new committee.

Newly elected President of TAAN has committed to develop the association as a professional organization and transparent in its overall activities.
Earlier, Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba inaugurated the AGM amid a ceremony. Secretary at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil aviation Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya , TAAN President Ramesh Dhamala and general secretary Sagar Pandey highlighted on problems and prospects of adventure tourism in the country.
On the occasion, Chhomrong village of Annapurna Region and Ghalegaun Community Development Committee were honored by TAAN Eco-Tourism Award to and TAAN Destination Management Award respectively. Different trekking agencies, personalities and journalists were also honoured by TAAN.
More than 1286 trekking agencies and organizations are affiliated to Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) at present.
