    Prime Minister Dahal emphasizes on tourism development, TAAN AGM held

    Kathmandu: Travel professionals have emphasized on infrastructure development to attract more tourists in the country.

    Addressing the38th annual general meeting of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) here on Friday, Prime Minister Pushpa  Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urged all the travel professionals to be optimistic for overall tourism development of the country.

    “The government is committed to build and improve airports in different parts of the country to strengthen air connectivity. Nepal should try to attract more tourists from two neighboring countries-India and China ,” he said .

    The Prime Minister, praising the initiatives of TAAN to build tourism memorial park in Timal of Kavre , committed to provide financial support for the construction of the park.

    TAAN plans to build ‘Tourism Memorial Park ‘atop a hill in Timal of Kavre in memory of trekkers, mountaineers and support staff, who lost their lives during trekking and mountaineering activities in Nepal.

    TAAN President Chandra Prasad Rijal urged the government to amend the Tourism Act , implement one window policy to facilitate travel professionals and open restricted areas for overall development of tourism sector in the country.

    On the occasion, Secretary at MoCTCA Shanker Prasad Adhikari , NATTA President Madhu Sudan Acharya , CEO of NTB Deepak Raj Joshi, senior Vice President  of TAAN Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Former General Secretary Rajendra Bajgain , General Secretary Karna Lama , In charge of CPN ( UML)Tourism Dept. Surya Thapa and TAAN CEO Tek B Mahat threw light on problems and challenges of the tourism sector in Nepal.

    TAAN also awarded top three trekking companies for issuing maximum Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card for the last fiscal year. Mountaineers, media persons and TAAN employees were also awarded on the occasion.

    TAAN, established in 1979, is a national association with more than 1340 general members involved in trekking business and management.
