NATTA elects new leadership

Kathmandu, Jan. 6: The 48th annual general meeting of the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA) has elected the new executive committee led by senior tourism entrepreneur Pavitra Kumar Karki for the next two years.
The new President of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Karki is Managing Director of Danfe Travel Centre (P) Ltd.
Similarly, Madhusudan Acharya and Sambhu Pathak have been elected as first and second vice presidents respectively. Achyut Guragain, Gokul KC, Santosh Gautam and Nabaraj Sapkota are elected as general secretary, secretary, treasurer and joint treasurer respectively .Raja Shakya, Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Sange Gurung, Ditendra Kumar Ghimire, Bishwo Tuladhar, Bidek Bijayananda and Sabita Bhattarai are members in the new committee.
Earlier,the outgoing President of NATTA Arjun Prasad Sharma, addressing the AGM of NATTA, urged the government to recognize tourism as an industry and strengthen the national flag carrier– Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
He said that the NATTA would work together with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and other concerned stakeholders to develop new tourist spots in the country and promote them in the international markets.
In the inauguration session of the AGM, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bist Magar highlighted on new initiatives taken by the government to promote Nepali tourism and wished for success of NATTA activities.
The secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr.Ganesh Raj Joshi urged the entrepreneurs to work closely with the government for overall development of tourism in the country.
On the occasion, outgoing General Secretary Madhusudan Acharya and CEO of NATTA Dr.Hari Sharma highlighted on the activities of NATTA, an umbrella organization of 528 travel agencies in the country.
Meanwhile, the association presented the Sagarmatha Award to Ms Natasha Shrestha of Avia Club Nepal for her outstanding contribution to promoting Nepal’s tourism and Bhaskar Award to Bigyan Kumar Thapa for promoting Nepal in Japan.The association honoured different 14 tourism entrepreneurs on the occasion.
Three journalists Hari Raj Joshi (Editor/Publisher of Image Nepal Publications), Sushil Bhattarai of Nagarik daily and Anil Joshi of News24 TV were also honoured with Tourism Media Awards on the occasion.
NATTA was established in 1966, by a group of leading travel agents, to work together to formulate sound business principal and regulate the travel industry in Nepal.
