    Nepal celebrates 34th UNWTO World Tourism Day

    Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the private sector travel trade celebrated the 34th UNWTO World Tourism Day amidst a grand function with participation of dignitaries, travel trade professionals and people from different strata of socio-economic life on Sept.27.

    The 34th World Tourism Day (WTD) 2013 was marked across the country organizing different programs with participation of more than 40 organizations and tourism stakeholders.

    The government officials, travel professionals and stakeholders expressed their commitment to protect water for sustainable tourism and common future of the mankind at different programs held here on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2013.

    The UN World Tourism Organisation has set the theme ‘Tourism and Water: Protecting Our Common Future’ for marking this year’s World Tourism Day.

    Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) organized main programs to mark the occasion.

    Min Bahadur Sherchan, the oldest Nepali Everest summitter and Chimi Sherpa, Miss Sherpa 2013 were declared honorary goodwill ambassadors of Nepal Tourism Board on the occasion.

    Addressing the function, Minister Tek Bahadur Gharti Magar emphasized to promote Nepal in international tourism market in a planned way to achieve the goals of Vision-2020. The minister inaugurated the newly structured Help Desk and Information Center and TIMS counter in NTB on the occasion.

    Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire highlighted on the government’s initiatives for destination promotion , destination diversification ,construction of international level airport in Bhairahawa , arrangements to purchase aircrafts and development of cultural and religious sites and heritages for overall development of tourism in the country.

    Under secretary at Ministry of Tourism Mohan Krishna Sapkota ,Acting CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Subhas Niraula , President of TAAN Ramesh Dhamala , Director of NTB Kashi Raj Bhandari stressed on the need to develop tourism for economic transformation of the country.

    “TAAN Trekking Trails “, “Chitlang Village Destination Campaign”, “Great Buddhist Trail “,” Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Activities” publication and “Gorkha Tourism souvenir ” were launched and released on the occasion.,

    NATTA organized special program

    Likewise, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) organized a grand function at the army Club here to celebrate World Tourism Day – 2013.
    Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire inaugurated the event and distributed prizes to various winners, while President of NATTA Pavitra Kumar Karki highlighted on the event.

    Earlier, a morning procession with banners and placards was organized at the joint initiative of different 40 travel related and tourism entrepreneurs´ organizations to create public awareness towards tourism from Thamel to Kathmandu Durbar Square.

    Thamel Tourism Development Council organized street festival in Thamel to mark the event.

    The first three tourists, who arrived to Nepal Friday morning, were honored at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on the occasion of the World Tourism Day.The honoured tourists are Miriam Mahaer and Mohar Mahaer of Israel and Henrick Nilshon of Sweden.
